Our Comedy Sportz "improv" team goes up against other high school teams in the style of Drew Carey´s "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" Games are appropriate for all ages to attend. Home games are held once or twice a month.

OPHS Key Club

The OPHS Key Club had over 60 OPHS kids as members this past year.  Key Club is an acronym for Kiwanis Educating Youth.
Key Club is the oldest and largest service program for high school students. What makes Key Club so successful is the fact that it is a student-led organization that teaches leadership through serving others. Members of the Kiwanis International family, Key Club members build themselves as they build their schools and communities.
Today, Key Club exists on more than 5,000 high school campuses, primarily in the United States and Canada. Growth efforts, however, have taken the Key Club experience internationally to Canada, the Caribbean nations, Central and South America, and most recently to Asia and Australia.
Key Club International is an organization of individual Key Clubs and is funded by nominal dues paid by every member. Its officers are high school leaders elected by the members at district and International conventions. The organization offers a wide range of opportunities to its members:

  • Leadership development

  • Vocational guidance

  • College scholarships

  • Subscription to the KEYNOTER magazine

  • Service-learning

  • Personal enrichment

  • Value-added member benefit programs

  • Liability insurance coverage

Originally, Key Club adopted as its motto, “We Build,” the same motto as its parent organization, Kiwanis International. In 1976, the organization opted to change its motto to “Caring – Our Way of Life” because these words more clearly conveyed members’ reasons for helping others.

Friends of Oak Park Schools

What is the Friends of Oak Park Schools?

The Oak Park School District is very fortunate in many ways. We are very lucky to have some of the state’s best teachers and administrators. We are also fortunate to have dedicated parents who put countless hours of time in helping our teachers in and out of the classrooms.

Our local property taxes only provide about 1/3 of the funding for our schools in Oak Park with the bulk of the funding coming from the State of California. This ratio is true for most school districts in the state. We all know that funding to schools in our state over the last few years has not been sufficient to provide the necessary resources to deliver the high quality instructional program that our parents expect and our children deserve. In addition, Oak Park Unified School District has now become a “shrinking” district, which we anticipate this to be a trend for the next few years, and since we are funded “per pupil”, by the state, we face a continuing negative effect on our financial situation.

We are a community that has a strong tradition of sharing responsibility, especially when it comes to our children’s schools. But there is need to further supplement the funding that Oak Park schools receive. That is why we have established the “Friends of Oak Park Schools” as an educational foundation that will augment the resources available to our schools and preserve programs that are in danger of reduction, allow us to keep and maintain our quality staff, and provide our children with the best possible educational experience.

We appreciate the support of our community in both financial terms and in volunteerism.

If you would like to receive more information on how you can donate funds to Friends or assist us with our events or join our board, please contact us at 818-735-3270.

Our Mission:

Our Mission is to support needed and desired Oak Park community programs and projects by acting as a governing body and tax-exempt umbrella for community groups and donor-defined funds.

Foundation officers are selected by the Board from among its members.  The Board meets quarterly, and meetings are open to the public.  Activity committees of the Community Foundation organize volunteers to provide services to the community.  While our public schools receive much of those services, other community programs also benefit.  The activity committees are the Parent-Faculty Clubs at both Medea Creek Middle School and Oak Park High School, the Friends of the Oak Park Library, the Oak Park Community Garden, Oak Park Chinese Language Program, Oak Park High School Grad Nite, Oak Park  Neighborhood School Parent Advisory Board and the Oak Park Performing Arts Alliance.   The Foundation also raises funds for community programs and projects and sponsors community events such as election forums.

The Community Foundation accepts tax deductible donations to support these and other programs.  Donors may contribute to the Foundation´s general fund, contribute to an activity committee, or create a donor-defined fund to address a need that is of special significance to the donor.  Structured donations can be made to the Foundation as part of long-term income tax and estate planning.
